Carnival time!

housands of spectators gathered in Ryde
for the town’s annual Carnival procession.
Brightly decorated floats wended their
way through the streets of Ryde, starting on the
Esplanade and then taking in Dover Street, Park
Road, Star Street, High Street and Union Street
before finishing back on the Esplanade near the
Boating Lake.
Ryde Carnival is the oldest carnival in the
United Kingdom, dating back to 1887, the
Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, who
became a lifelong patron. Since then it has
thrilled millions of visitors and locals alike with
its fantastic sights and sounds, and this year’s
procession again lived up to expectations!
