High Sheriff 's
Garden Party

laire Locke hosted the traditional Isle of Wight High
Sheriff ’s Garden Party at her home in Newbridge. There
were around 200 guests including the Lord Lieutenant
of the Island, Maj. Gen. Martin White, several former High
Sheriffs, the Bishop of Portsmouth, the Rt Rev Christopher
Foster and the Vicar of Newport, the Rev. Kevin Arkell. Island MP
Andrew Turner also attended, along with several IW Councillors,
representatives from the local police, ambulance service, fire
brigade, prison service and charitable organisations.
Claire chose the event to raise the profile of the High Sheriff ’s
Trust, saying she believes it has scope to be a real force of
good in the community. It focuses on helping the young, the
elderly and crime prevention, and gives out grants to grassroots
community projects.
Corporate sponsorship has been secured, but around £3,000
a year needs to be raised through private donations, and Claire
has recently launched the charity's online ‘just giving’ page.
