Jewson at the double
to win Mermaid Cup
Paul Swain’s Jewson team repeated
their fine achievements of 12 months
earlier to win sailing’s Mermaid Cup,
the Isle of Wight Construction Cup,
for a second successive year.
A total of 10 teams competed in
this year’s event, including Lancaster’s
Estate Agents all-ladies team skippered
by a member of Seaview Yacht Club.
Breakfast was served by Seaview YC
before competition began in earnest.
There were two races in the morning
and two more in the afternoon, with
an excellent buffet lunch served in
between, again courtesy of Seaview
YC.

Four teams were vying for honours
in the opening two races before
the Jewson crew put in consistent
performances in the afternoon to
ensure another success for Paul. Steve
Caudle’s Marvins team were runners
up with Mark Giddens’ RG Structural
Development team taking third place.
The participants were Jewson (Paul
Swain), Marvins (Steve Caudle),
ERMC/Stoneham Construction (Paul
Airey), Round the Island Building
Ltd (Stewart McDonald), Alchemy
Architects/Andrew Courts Architects.
Spence Willard Estate Agency (Will
Rome), Biggs Talbot/Tari Willis
Associates (Andrew Talbot), Wight
Architecture/Energy Services IOW
(Gian Giblett), R. G. Structural
Development Ltd (Mark Giddens),
Cowan Consultancy (Paul Realey) and
Lancaster Estate Agents (Ben Hollis).
The general consensus was that the
event was a success with many of the
teams confirming their participation
next year, 12 months to get into
training to beat the all conquering
Jewson team.
