ENTERTAINMENT L A V I T S E F f u n! The show will go on! That was the clear message from IW Festival organiser John Giddings, despite atrocious weather conditions blighting this year’s music extravaganza at Seaclose, Newport. Thousands of brave souls battled the elements to enjoy a star-studded line-up which included US legend Bruce Springsteen, Noel Gallagher, Jessie J, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty and scores more. Despite chaos of the roads around the site, and fields of mud on it, music and entertainment were again the clear winners, even though at times patience was tested to the limit. John Giddings apologised to revellers for the problems. He insisted he did everything possible to prepare the site properly – but even he could not legislate for the horrendous June weather. Talks are expected over the next few months between organisers and Island officials to try to ensure there are no such traffic problems next year – but the IW Festival 2013 will go ahead! 'I would never stop doing the IW Festival. The only reason would be if people didn’t want to come any more, and that has not happened,' – John Giddings. 148 www.visitislandlife.com
