Property The tiling specialists The growing trend for sleek tiled floors, modern wet-rooms and classy kitchens and bathrooms has all been good news for the Island-based business Tile Superstore. Launched in 1985 by Aggy Iona, the family business has since expanded to two outlets in Newport and Lake, and provides a specialist service in supplying and fitting all kinds of tiling. Backed up by a seven-strong team of staff, Aggy sources and supplies a huge range of tiles, from classic porcelain to wood- effect and mosaics. They are imported from all over Europe as well as the Far East. The company’s two Island showrooms are a haven for DiY tilers and builders, with their massive range of tiles along with all the vital accessories, adhesives and grouts. Staff can also give expert advice and guidance, and recommend fitting services if needed. So if you’re looking to instal underfloor heating, replace carpets with floor tiles, or give your kitchen or bathrooms a makeover, a visit to one of the showrooms will provide plenty of inspiration. Shop finds its perfect home She moved to the Island with the intention of an early retirement after illness, but two and a half years later, Susan Kyle is running her own quirky vintage-themed gift shop in Bembridge – and loving every minute of it. Having traded for a few months at Rectory Mansions in Brading, Susan came across a beautiful shop unit that had been lying empty and unloved for 18 months. With its stylish Art Nouveau double-windowed frontage and exquisite tiled facade, Susan reckoned it would be the perfect home for her Bramble and Berry business – and she’s been proved right as it’s already attracting a regular following of customers. The shop offers an eclectic mix of antique and vintage items and new crafts and gifts, along with an unusual range of greeting cards. Susan also works closely with the Island’s prison, and sells a popular range of hand- painted coat hangers and decorations all made by the inmates. She says she and part- time assistant Alison French love welcoming browsers and chatting to customers – and the customers love finding unusual items they don’t come across anywhere else.
