Return of the
scarecrow festival
This year’s festival (which is now being
staged every other year) starts the
morning of Saturday May 25 and runs
right through to the evening of Sunday
June 2. This year, as per previous years,
it is expected there will be over 100
scarecrows on show throughout the
parish.
Taking place throughout the villages
of Gatcombe and Chillerton, the
recommended starting place is Cox’s
Corner. Head up Rectory Lane towards
Gatcombe, then it’s back down the main
Newport to Chillerton Road, turn right
and head for Chillerton.
The best part is that it is totally free, so
come along and bring all the family.
And if you need a break from walking
around all the exhibits? Then simply pop
into the Chillerton Village Hall from
10am to 4pm each day. You can put your
feet up and enjoy a freshly brewed cup
of tea or coffee and a slice of delicious
home-baked cake for just £1.
Donations are gratefully accepted and
help to stage the event and also go to
causes within the Parish.
