Minghella: a
movie marathon
A wonderful weekend of Anthony
Minghella’s films, hosted by his family
and a glittering array of stars, made a
fantastic tribute to the famous Islander
who died so tragically young last March.
Over the weekend March 13 to15, seven of
Anthony’s films were shown, workshops
were held, and the stars of the films
mingled with those attending.
Jude Law, Anthony’s sister Gioia and
trumpeter Guy Barker introduced the
Saturday afternoon screening of The
Talented Mr Ripley. In a following press
conference touching tributes were made,
and anecdotes shared, by Jude, Guy and
Nikki Amuka-Bird, star of the Number
One Ladies Detective Agency.
The Saturday evening screening of
Anthony’s Oscar winning The English
Patient was preceded by a champagne
and canapé reception attended by Kevin
Whately, Duncan Kenworthy and Lord
David Puttnam.
Hopes were shared that there might be
an annual event to commemorate Anthony
Minghella.
