About
Contents
Isla Mar Research Expeditions was established in 2015 by Dr. Chelsea & Evan Tuohy. The
two fish biologists have over 5 years of experience leading and hosting field courses in
Puerto Rico. We offer a unique experience where students have opportunities to take part in
on-going research and experience the life of a marine scientist.
Our mission is to provide exceptional service in marine science education, field-based
research training and experience and public outreach in ocean conservation
We tailor our scientific education services to undergraduates and early career scientists; we
provide the training they need to conduct independent projects and collect quality data. Our
goal is to present a field-based research orientation that will equip our students with the
skills they need to be competitive in the field of marine science.
Additionally, we can also offer our services to visiting scientists and researchers. We are
happy to assist in the field and we look forward to collaborating with you on your project in
Puerto Rico.
See you underwater!
03 Field Course Coordination 11 Specimen Collection
We can plan, coordinate and implement your tropical
marine ecology field courses in Puerto Rico. We can provide you specimens for your field courses, or
collect specimens and ship them to you.
07 Field Assistance 13 Technical Diving
We offer services for fish and benthic sampling for all
your project needs on the island or elsewhere. We are trained in technical diving using closed-circuit
rebreathers and advanced nitrox open circuit.
09 Field Technique Training 15 Student Internships
We can train your students in the basics of field sampling
by providing instruction on some of the most common
methods of data collection. We offer internships with our local projects and frequently
coordinate opportunities to assist graduate students at a
local university.
