Student Internships
Isla Mar occasionally offers internship opportunities for qualified students to assist with our local
projects. However, if we do not have current openings, we can also help your students connect with
local graduate students to volunteer on their projects.
Assistance with Local Projects
Island Exploration Networking & Mentoring
W hen students spend time with us in Puerto Rico, they
not only gain experience as marine scientists, they also
have an opportunity to explore a beautiful tropical
paradise with knowledgeable guides. Oftentimes local
projects will be conducted across the island, where
students can participate in research and excursions to
places they would otherwise never visit. We link students with local graduate students. These
opportunities allow both participants to learn valuable
skills in networking. We also mentor students in practical
applications of their degrees, such as applying for grants
and writing manuscripts.
Direct your students to our website to view current openings
for internships. If none are available, encourage them to
contact us directly for assistance in organizing one.
Our work spans a variety of fields from fisheries management, marine protected area effectiveness,
invasive species and coral reef health monitoring. Some projects require prior experience, but most
opportunities allow the student to learn through active participation.
