Long Service in Arts Award
CHRISTINA EDMUND
Her journey in music began at the age of fourteen. She sang for
“Kalappadam” programme, a popular radio show. Her first band was
with Singapore Indian Music Party, founded by her father the late
Mr.Edmund Appau .
In 1967 she got a chance to sing in the first Tamil record in Singapore.
She sang the “chinna chinna paravei” composed by Mr. Suppiah and
sang two songs each on the first record along with a popular singer
S.Thanaletchmi. The second record included some members of “The
Esquires”, a well-known local English band and a pianist, Ramadas,
These songs became popular and were requested by fans regularly
over Radio Singapore and Radio Malaysia. She even received fan
mails from as far as Indonesia.
She is competent in playing the clarinet and Saxophone. My duets
were mostly sung with Mr. John Mammen, a popular local singer
whom She married in the late 70’s.
We congratulate for her continuous achievement in music and confer
her with Long Service in Arts Award.
