Let ’ s dive in into the world of social media today . Let me begin by sharing how I was promoting myself and my business in the early days . When I decided to open my own skin studio after having worked at a day spa , med-spa , and an aesthetic doctor ’ s office for more than 5 years after graduating aesthetician school , I remember asking my brother to design some flyers for me to promote my grand opening . I ’ m not very computer savvy , and this was way before apps like Canva simplified content creation - before content creation was even a thing . The flyer was super simple ; one-sided with a photo of me and two special offers , my spa address , email , and phone number . There was not one social media icon to be found on that flyer . Crazy , right !?!? I had them printed and picked them up at the local FedEx store ( that was Kinkos back then ). Flyers in hand , I asked a couple of girlfriends to canvas many of the businesses in the neighborhood with me . I even went and passed them around at the local park . Another “ marketing strategy ” I used was to ask every client that came through my treatment room door to post an honest Yelp review , and to talk about me to their friends .

This initial approach was so much simpler , but it was also infinitely harder to build a clientele . There is SO much more we can do these days ! Now , we can reach so many more people with just one post . I know social media can be super intimidating . It is my belief that many aestheticians tend to be more introverted ; I mean , we opted for a career where we get to serve our clients , one-on-one , in a quiet and peaceful setting . Now , in this time of social media dominance , we are expected to get ourselves out there in front of a camera and do a sales pitch ?

Whether we like it or not , a lot more people are using
