The Importance of Selling Through Education
access to information , consumers are more likely to do research before buying a product . In my experience working at the front desk of a medical spa , I have had more and more clients asking complex questions about products and ingredients . If I didn ’ t take the time to educate myself , I would miss the opportunity to sell while offering appropriate products to my clients . Clients will continuously keep you on your toes and you must be ready ; otherwise , you risk the loss of your credibility with them . In this day and age , consumers are more educated about the skincare world , making selling through education more critical than ever .
There are many reasons that selling through education is the most effective technique . Teaching is different from giving a sales pitch . Providing a consumer with knowledge about a good , service , or product demonstrates your concern and care for them . On the other hand , “ pitching ” is just attempting to convince a customer to make a purchase . If a client sees your education as a sales pitch , this may turn them off and make them less likely to make a purchase . It is also important to note that clients may be turned off if they feel that the salesperson assumes they lack knowledge or is lecturing them . There is a fine line between being too salesy and educating just the right amount , and between talking down to a potential customer and making them feel like you truly have their best interest at heart by educating them ; learning to walk this line will benefit you and your business significantly . Make them see that you are giving them the gift of knowledge , allowing them to make educated decisions wherever they are in life . Teaching the consumer will leave them with something , and will ultimately build better relationships with clients . You may not make a sale every time , but educating is a commitment that will result in a stronger bond and longer-lasting loyalty . I can remember several times that I spent hours with a client because they wanted in-depth knowledge about every product we carried . Even though the client didn ’ t end up buying anything that same day , they would always ask for me specifically when they returned . By taking the time to educate them , I gained their trust and built a solid relationship with them . When you attempt to sell without providing any expertise , facts , context , or real-life examples , the customer may question whether they can trust you
