The Neglected Body
Facial aging seems to draw more attention and care than the body – although facial skin comprises only about 4.5 % of skin in its entirety . 1 This is perhaps not surprising since the face is so important in expressive communication and immediately draws the attention of the onlooker . However , as the years – and aging – each progress , the lack of care given to the body accumulates and becomes more problematic . Suncare is com- monly not applied with appropriate diligence to the skin of the body . Treatment is always more difficult than prevention and the lack of preventive measures given to the body mean that observable declines in the skin of the body become more noticeable with time .
Types of Aging
There are two types of aging in skin and , like the face , the body experiences both ; extrinsic aging is due to external factors such as photoaging which occurs in sun exposed areas . On the other hand , intrinsic aging occurs in non-exposed areas and
