Thank you for reading this column ! It kicks off what I hope will be a long and productive relationship between us .

I ’ m Jezra Kaye , a public speaking coach and speechwriter based in Brooklyn , New York . I ’ m also a small business owner . In 2003 , I started Speak Up for Success . Since then , I have been helping people worldwide and from various industries communicate more effectively for business and in their personal lives .
I ’ m also a former jazz singer , house cleaner , word processing trainer , temporary secretary , pharmaceutical speechwriter , and ( don ’ t judge !) go-go dancer , which means that I ’ ve had a chance to observe many types of communications in many different environments . However , until 2021 , when I began to coach many of the people you know and admire from iS Clinical , your industry hadn ’ t been one of them .
Today , for the very first iS Skin Source article , I want to remind you ( and myself ) of some relationship-building basics that we generally know but sometimes forget to follow .
Three Ways to Create Great Connections with Your Clients , Patients , and Business Partners

Accentuate the Personal The American linguist Deborah Tannen has written about two different types of communicators : report talkers and rapport talkers . Report talkers just want the facts — or so they think — while rapport talkers are relationship builders who often lead with a compliment or some other friendly overture .
So , why should you take public speaking advice from someone who ’ s a newbie to your business ? Well , because the skills you need to communicate well are the same , whether you ’ re talking to your team members , negotiating with a vendor , or singing with an 18-piece band .
In future issues of Skin Source Magazine , we ’ ll look at important communication skills , including the following :
How to communicate confidently , even when you don ’ t feel confident .
How to incorporate your listeners ’ point of view .
www . iSSKINSOURCE . com
How to organize your thoughts on the fly quickly .
How to lead people from one idea to the next in a way that makes them want to follow you .

Once you ’ ve tested the waters and know who you ’ re dealing with , accentuate the personal whenever you interact with people .
