@ beverlyhillssurgeon and social media by Dr . Andrew Cohen

Before a patient comes into the office , they can get a feel for my personality , skill as a surgeon , and who my staff is .

Not a day in my office goes by that I don ’ t have a patient refer to a post I put up on Instagram or a reference to a technique they saw me do in a YouTube video from the operating room ( OR ). IG , YouTube , Facebook , TikTok , and other social media sites have given doctors a whole new way to educate patients on the latest techniques , safety , and results in the OR . Before a patient comes into the office , they can get a feel for my personality , skill as a surgeon , and who my staff is .

When a patient is referred to my office , they usually check out my website , which is more detailed on who I am as a surgeon and a whole variety of before-and-after photos and details about surgical techniques . They might look at Yelp or Google reviews to get an idea of the experience that other patients have had . I find that day-to-day , I am very active on Instagram . It gives me the opportunity to explain a technique while in surgery ( with patient ’ s permission , of course !) or show a new before-and-after photo from a recent surgery . Sometimes we post something fun that happened during the day and other times ; we use it to educate patients on something that might be current in the news . All posts have had patient permission prior to hitting the internet and we are always sensitive to patient confidentiality and comfort .
As an Instagram user myself , I follow new surgical techniques or new lasers out in the market . I use it to educate , and I also use it to get educated myself ! Keeping up with the latest technology and techniques is extremely important as a surgeon . We go to medical school and do a residency program , as well as a fellowship . That is a decade ( and sometimes more !) of training , but the truth is that a great surgeon never stops learning and I have social media to help make that easier and a whole lot more fun .
I ’ m afraid you won ’ t find me dancing in the OR on TikTok or Snap , but you WILL find that my staff and I excited about each procedure and put our best foot forward with every post on our favorite forms of social media .
