Aging

Through the Decades

When we ’ re young , our skin is firm , bright , even-toned , and wrinkle-free .

by Dr . Tahl Humes

So often , patients walk into the office and state that they woke up one day and “ looked old .” Of course , one can ’ t look young one day and old the next . Aging is a process that happens over many years and starts even earlier than patients recognize . When we ’ re young , our skin is firm , bright , even-toned , and wrinkle-free . That youthful skin is seen as attractive and healthy . Just when we start to appreciate the rosy , sought-after taut skin , environmental and genetic factors begin to come into play .

The epidermis thins . Age spots appear . Collagen and elastin begin to diminish . While we can tackle environmental factors with sunblock , antioxidants , and cleaner living , genetics are all but impossible to eliminate . What we can do is slow the aging process with preventative and rejuvenating treatments .
While aging is taking a visible toll , women ’ s feelings about the process run the gamut . Our younger days offer vibrancy inside and out . Mid-life has us toggling between embracing the flaws that make us unique or feeling intimidated by unrealistic magazine covers and runway models . And the golden years have us looking back , wondering what the years have done to us . www . iSSKINSOURCE . com 39
