Jodrell Bank Observatory £ 2,000 *
Jodrell Bank’ s inspirational story includes revolutionary scientific discoveries, amazing feats of engineering, the dawn of the Space Age and the creation of the Grade I listed Lovell Telescope, an icon for science and engineering. Today Jodrell Bank Observatory is owned and managed by the University of Manchester and is a world-leading science research institute, with scientists working at the cutting edge of modern astrophysics.
Hack Green £ 2,000 *
Visiting the secret underground bunker. Hidden deep in the Cheshire countryside, the bunker stayed secret for more than 50 years. Now the blast doors are open and you can discover the labyrinth of rooms and authentic equipment used to run this defence region in the event of a National Emergency. Watch the previously banned film“ The War Game” in their cinema.
University of Liverpool £ 1,300 *
A visit to the state-of-the-art radiation laboratories at the University of Liverpool. The laboratories are used for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, nuclear industry CPD and detector research and development; supporting major international research collaborations in Nuclear and Particle Physics. The visit will also include the Environmental Research laboratory- these laboratories form part of the Radiation Detection Centre of Excellence.
