IM THE FIRST WORD
PUBLISHER’S LETTER
No One Owes
You Anything
The iron game can definitely teach us
a lesson or two about life. When things
are weighing you down, there are only
two ways to go: Push back or be carried
out on a stretcher. There are no other
options. And just like our workouts, life
throws some heavy days at us. When
that happens, just handle it, sunshine.
No one said that life is fair and that
we always get rewarded for hard work or
doing well.
Some of us drink champagne in
the fast lane, and some of us eat our
microwaved pizza waiting for the week-
end again. It’s interesting that they never
teach us in school about it. Instead, they
make us believe that there is a certain
life formula where you become a part of
the system and it is simple to get what
you want if only you do this and that.
But nobody warns us that sometimes
we won’t get what we want even if we do
everything “right.” Then what? Then we
start blaming everything and every-
one, feeling like a total failure, making
us question everything we have done.
Many don’t deal with that so well.
There are people who can eat all they
want and still have abs, while some of us
look at carbs and get fat. Some become
royalty just because someone related to
them 500 years ago was royalty, while
others are born in a slum. Some get pro-
moted at their job with minimal effort,
and others stay at the same freaking
position for years no matter what they
do. Yeah, you get it. The world doesn’t
care who you are or how important you
think you are.
Honestly, nobody outside of your
immediate family and circle of friends
really cares very much about you,
because you don’t impact their lives.
Most people are focused predomi-
nantly on themselves. If you want to
know how much you’ll be missed when
you’re gone, put your finger in a bucket
of water and then remove it—the hole
that is left is how much the world will
miss any of us. Here’s the deal: Life
is not fair, and we just have to deal
with it. Keep trying, stop blaming, look
ahead, stay persistent, stop looking at
what others have, and mind your own
business. At the end of the day, nobody
owes us anything.
