After our glorious summer days it is now back to the drawing board for a lot of genealogists and family history enthusiasts alike. This is a great time to think about enrolling in a genealogy course in your area. The long established course run by Sean Murphy at University College Dublin is definitely one to consider, see page 9 for details. September is also the perfect time to consider joining your local Genealogical Society where you are bound to pick up great tips to help further your research over a cup of tea and a chat. Genealogy Societies are wonderful ways to learn more about Irish genealogy, see our Society Notes page 14. Chris Paton’s ‘Top Ten Ways To Overcome The Brick Wall In Your Research’ on page 16 will no doubt also be useful to you. It is with alarm that we note that the General Register Office based at the Irish life Centre in Dublin is due to move shortly to a dilapidated former unemployment office at Werburgh Street, a major backward step by the Government considering the success of The Gathering 2013 and the ever increasing interest in Irish ancestral research. We echo the response of The Council Of Genealogical Organisations (CIGO) to urge readers to contact Minister Joan Burton and Minister Brian Hayes (see page 15 for contact details) to ensure that the ‘temporary’ move remains just that! See page 19 for lots of great dates for your diary and one to note is the hugely popular ‘Back to our Past’ show which returns to the RDS, Ballsbridge, Dublin from Friday 18th - Sunday 20th October inclusive. We are delighted to have a stand there again this year and we will have lots of special offers on back copies, subscriptions and genealogy starter packs for the duration of the show and as always we look forward to meeting you there. If you don’t get around to enrolling on a genealogy course or joining a genealogy society you can now ‘Dial A Genealogist’ at Irish Roots magazine’s online store. Simply visit our website at www.irishrootsmagazine.com and enter the ‘shop’ tab for more details. Wherever your genealogy research path takes you this Autumn we wish you every success with it , we hope that you enjoy the journey and most of all that you have great fun along the way.
