Autumn 2013
NISSAN
There's probably no better-known
modern taxi than that based on the
Nissan NV200 van, since it was chosen
as the preferred replacement one for
the iconic New York public service
vehicles. Here at Frankfurt the Nissan
stand highlighted the e-NV200 Taxi,
planned for testing in Barcelona in
Spain next year. The NV200 is built in
Barcelona.
The Friend-Me Concept debuted
at the Shanghai Auto Show, and a
production car based on elements of
this one will be aimed at the China
market and in particular young people.
The name reflects the Facebook age,
and interior quirks include
a back-seat driver boon,
dashboard readouts for every
passenger. Each of them can
also beam their smartphone
screens onto the car's
main touch-screen. Oh, the
distraction of it!
The X-Trail has been a
decent, respected, but not
particularly stylish AWD
for many years. However,
following on the success
of the Qashqai and Juke
muscular crossovers in recent years,
the new X-Trail has been given a dose
of the same steroids. This time it will
target the Hyundai Santa Fe with more
confidence, and there will also be a
FWD version for the urban owner. A 7seat option will replace the Qashqai+2.
OPEL
Opel's stunning Monza Concept,
designed to show some of the style
direction of future models from the
German carmaker.
Opel says it's their vision of
interface between human and
machine. With some extraordinary
thoughts in new ways of providing
and displaying information. One
sidelight idea that came from that
reveal is an app as car manual,
where the owner of a smartphone
can point its camera at any part
of a car and all the info on it will
come up in text, pictures and video
instruction.
