Summer Camps -
Camp Med North is a partnership between
Northwest Area Health Education Center (AHEC) of
Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Iredell
Health System and I-SS. The purpose of the camp
is to educate and prepare high school students
for careers in the health care field. This includes
25 hours of presentations, tours/observations and
clinical experiences at Iredell Health System (15
hours), team building at Iredell County Outdoor
Center Mooresville and a trip to tour Wake Forest
University School of Medicine. Maximum enrollment
is 18 students.
Classroom/Industry Partnerships -
One great example is the partnership between
The Historic Sharpe House and West and North
Iredell High Schools. Foods and Apparel students
work with their teachers to learn how to prepare
various recipes and garments that are then used for
events at the Sharpe House.
Career Fairs – Looking Ahead:
On May 17, 2017, West Iredell High School will
be hosting a career fair organized by Mr. Alan
Williams, Career Development Coordinator. Many
local business will be talking to students about their
industry and job opportunities. On October 12,
2017, Mr. Todd Williams, CTE Director, is partnering
with Mr. David Bradley, President of the Greater
Statesville Chamber of Commerce, in planning a
Career Fair for all 8th grade students.
Preparing students for College and Career
Readiness is a top priority for CTE and ISS.
Work based learning is becoming the pathway to
prosperity for our economy. Our students need to be
prepared to compete in a world that demands more
than just basic skills and it is the job of all educators
to give students the necessary tools for success.
Work based learning is one of those tools.
