Third Annual Fuel Up to
Play 60 Family Night/Health Fair
Fuel Up to Play 60 is designed to engage and empower
youth to take action for their health by implementing long
term, positive changes for themselves and their schools.
As part of the FUTP60 program, Troutman Elementary
hosted a FUTP60 Family Night/Health Fair on Friday,
March 3rd from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Our goal was to
educate families on how to make healthy food choices
and get 60 minutes of activity a day. In the gym, we had
physical activities set up for families to do together such
as tennis, martial arts, jumping rope, kick boxing, and
Zumba. In the cafeteria, local businesses, community
organizations, and restaurants set up tables displaying
wellness information along with healthy food choices.
Students also enjoyed meeting and playing with our
special guests: Sir Purr from the Carolina Panthers,
Chick-fil-a Cow (Statesville), Harry the Dragon from
Harris Teeter, McGruff the Detective Dog (Iredell County
Sheriff’s Office), Wendy from Wendy’s, Troutman and
Rory McFiercely III (Jump Rope for Heart Zoo Crew).
We had an awesome turnout with 34 vendors in
attendance and an additional 5 businesses donated
door prizes. Our goal was to bring families together and
educate them on how they can have fun being active
together and how to make healthy choices. Hearing the
laughter and seeing smiling faces assured us that our
goal was met by the end of the night.
