Freshmen choose between Arts classes, Business/CTE, or JROTC. After the freshman year, no Arts,
Business, or JROTC electives are required. Students are allowed to pursue the typical Associate in Arts, or
Associate in Science, or other applied science degrees offered at Mitchell Community College.
Third, Agriculture & Science Early College:
The Agriculture & Science Early College is located in one building on the North Iredell High School campus.
College instructors will go to NIHS to provide the college classes. Lunch is served in the NIHS cafeteria.
Students may participate in sports, cheerleading, marching band, JROTC, and agriculture classes within
NIHS. Clubs will be provided within the early college and in combination with NIHS.
Students are allowed to pursue an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science, or an Associate in Applied
Science in Agri-business. If a student is pursuing the Agribusiness AAS degree, Agriculture courses are
required each year. Students will progress through the college courses in cohorts, on the NIHS campus.
Focused recruitment occurs in the northern end of Iredell County, but is not limited to there.
Transportation will be on normal NIHS buses. Some additional transportation will be offered to serve other
areas of the county.
Mitchell Community College also offers support and fun for students.
All students will take a college success introductory class, and will have an assigned faculty advisor.
Students will have access to free tutoring and free assistance with writing for college courses. A variety of
clubs and student activities are provided by MCC for student participation.
Application process:
We are not looking for just “A” students. Students must be motivated and responsible. We are looking
for students who will be the first person in your family to attend college. Teacher and counselor
recommendations are extremely important. In addition, we look at your seventh and eighth grade EOG
scores, grades, attendance, and discipline history.
Applications will be online for all three early colleges. The online part of the application goes “live” on Dec 1 st and
is due before February. In addition to the online application portion, you must get three specific recommendations
& some school data reports. You will be notified in mid-April if you are being offered admission.
CCTL admits 54 students, Crossroads admits up to 65 students, and the Agriculture & Science Early
College admits up to 75 students each year. All three early colleges allow current eighth, ninth, and tenth
graders to apply.
Informational open houses will be held at each early college in January. Look on each of the three Early
College websites for the specific dates, times, and locations.
