Lamplight Awards

Remember when we called them “libraries”? Remember when we called the people who
worked in ‘libraries”, “Librarians”? They’ve come a very long way.

Dr. David Blattner, Chief Technology Officer for Iredell-Statesville Schools, was recently
able to award Lamplight Grants to four schools whose requests for funds were judged based
on their innovative ideas and how these ideas tied back to the vision of the individual school. The
impressive panel of judges included Dr. Sandra Hughes-Hassell, Professor, School of Information
and Library Science, UNC Charlotte, Mrs. Kathy Parker from the Digital Learning Department –
North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Sarah Searles, the district-wide specialist for
Library and Media Services for Knox County Public Schools (Tennessee).
