Inquiring Minds Want to Know about Coddle Creek IB Candidate School !

Coddle Creek Elementary in Mooresville has started the year with a renewed focus on inquiring about the world around them . The school recently became an IB Primary Years Programme Candidate School offering a global education which uses an inquiry model for learning . The inquiry model involves students asking and inquiring about a topic , exploring content , but also making connections , evaluating information , which leads to students to take action .
Students can be found around the campus exploring ideas with teammates ; connecting to the IB Learner Profile character traits and attitudes ; and taking action in their school , homes and community . In every grade level in the school , students are also exposed to an additional language of study . A Coddle Creek parent of two students recently stated , “ I love how my children are actively engaged in their learning and they are in a place where their ideas are valued . They are learning the content , but also how to look at the bigger picture .”
Over the next two years , the CCE staff will be implementing and refining the units of inquiry while working with professional consultants from the International Baccalaureate Organization to solidify the school-wide Program of Inquiry . The school is open for tours by appointment and will hold several parent information sessions on various components of the Primary Years IB Programme . All are open to the community . The addition of the Primary Years Programme to Iredell-Statesville Schools offers parents a great choice option for those who value a focus on international mindedness , students as inquirers , and those who value a connected and reflective program of study .
