Raising Highly Capable Kids is another
successful partnership whereby IredellStatesville Schools allow space to be used
to host this program for parents. Too many
statistics highlight the break-down of the family
and the high level of dysfunction in some
communities. The parents who completed
this program were shown that through their
own efforts plus the resources of committed
educators and community volunteers, their
future and that of their kids can be better.
Raising Highly Capable Kids is a program
started by Rezilient Kidz, a 501c3 organization
created to champion the needs of children
and to equip parents to build thriving, healthy
families through research, community initiatives
and reliable content. This 13-week parenting
curriculum is based on Search Institute’s 40
Developmental Assets created to help parents
minimize the effects of negative influences while
increasing the probability that their children
will invest in behaviors that lead to success.
The classes equip parents with some helpful
insight and tools that will assist them in raising
kids that are healthy, caring and responsible.
While raising kids can be tough, this program
provides a caring, fun and safe environment
where parents can explore what ingredients are
needed to help their child succeed.
Parents, teachers, youth workers
and communities across the country are
experiencing great results with Raising Highly
Capable Kids. Cloverleaf Elementary and N.
B. Mills Elementary offered classes in the fall
of 2015. There were a total of 24 graduates
from this program in December. The program
was well received by the participants and so
instrumental in bringing about positive changes
to their families that three of the graduating
parents are participating as facilitators in the
next group of classes being offered.
A class just recently began at Hebron
Baptist Church on Wednesday nights. There will be
another class starting on Monday nights beginning
February 29th from 6:15pm-7:45pm at NB Mills
which is open to anyone in the community.
Childcare and dinner are provided at no cost to
participants. Additionally, there is a class being
offered to residents of the Statesville Housing
Authority and another at Power Cross Ministries.
More locations are in the planning stages.
