that can negatively impact students. The five-to-six
week programs are based on curriculum aligned
with the local distract, taught by certified teachers,
and provide free meals and weekend meal packs.
Participants also receive swim lessons and get to
attend educational field trips. This year, the program
took place at Third Creek Elementary, included NB
Mills, Cloverleaf and East Elementary Schools, and
served 40 children.
“We are tremendously grateful for the generous
support that brings us closer to bridging the education
achievement gap in our community. This program
would not be possible without the donations from the
United Way of Iredell County and generous donors
to our Annual Giving Campaign, and we know it
is critical for students in the community,” shared
Angela ‘Blake’ Blakley, Vice President of Operations
for the Statesville Family YMCA. “Studies show
that a student’s future success can in many ways
be determined by the end of fifth grade. The farther students fall
behind, the greater the chances they may never make up that
achievement gap.”
