Mock Trial
As the story unfolds, attorneys
and their clients are behind tables, facing
the “judge”. “Judge” Mike Williams,
just barely maintaining the status of his
robe, directs the attorneys, defendant
and witnesses. This tense courtroom
drama about abusive relationships and
courtroom protocol, took place in the
media center at Statesville High School.
Students from Crossroads Early College,
under the guidance of their Civics and
Economics instructor, Mike Williams,
presented a compelling story, complete
with tearful witnesses. The students were
professional, composed and convincing.
Closing statements were made evoking
strong emotions from the jury. Once
the deliberations were over, the jury
remained hopelessly deadlocked at 10 to
2. The defendant? She walked.
