Figures such as these make Ireland seem like a dangerous place to potential tourists and immigrants. Because of this, Ireland’s government has recently implemented random breath testing for drivers and since then the number of drunk drivers has decreased.Although some are trying to promote sobriety within Irish drivers, others have different ideas. A small Irish town called Kilgarvan passed a motion “to allow people to drive home from their nearest pub after having two or three drinks on little-used roads driving at very low speeds.”Laws and motions such as this one encourage the act of driving under the influence and other reckless alcohol related behavior. Driving while intoxicated not only endangers the driver, but also the passengers within the car, everyone else driving on the same road, pedestrians, and in serious cases: people within buildings. Cars, which weigh thousands of pounds, are like weapons and can easily crush even the biggest man. Driving under the influence can make these deadly weapons thousands of times deadlier.
