sexual health. Although drinking alcohol, especially binge drinking like the Irish typically do, is
harmful to both adults and children, many Irish parents openly admit to allowing their offspring
to drink.
In 2007 alone, 18,851 people were arrested in Ireland for driving under the influence of
alcohol. That is an average of 347 Irish drivers a week being arrested . Over half of the deaths in
car accidents in the years 2003 through 2005 were caused my drunk drivers. These statistics are
astounding and prove that drunk driving in Ireland is a major issue. Figures such as these make
Ireland seem like a dangerous place to potential tourists and immigrants. Because of this,
Ireland’s government has recently implemented random breath testing for drivers and since then
the number of drunk drivers has decreased.Although some are trying to promote sobriety within
Irish drivers, others have different ideas. A small Irish town called Kilgarvan passed a
motion “to allow people to drive home from their nearest pub after having two or three drinks on
little-used roads driving at very low speeds.”Laws and motions such as this one encourage the
act of driving under the influence and other reckless alcohol related behavior. Driving while
