Communion Season
Mark your calendars now for I. P. C.’ s annual Communion Season, August 10-12. Derek Thomas, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, South Carolina, will be our guest speaker this year. Besides serving as the Senior Minister at First Presbyterian, he is a well-known author and lecturer associated with Ligonier Ministries and Reformed Theological Seminary— Atlanta. Our Communion Season will have services on Thursday-Saturday nights leading up to the Lord’ s Supper on Sunday morning.
I. P. C. Servants
As many of you may know, approximately 200 people from around the country gathered at I. P. C. during March 21-23 for the various sessions of the Reformation’ s Reforms Conference that I. P. C. hosted. Several well-known seminary professors and church leaders presented topics on the impact of the Protestant Reformation in society, architecture, government, and of course in worship. This year marks the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther posting his 95 Theses on the Wittenberg church door, which is regarded as the starting point of the Reformation. To undertake this conference, over 50 different I. P. C. members were involved with
CONGREGATIONAL GROWTH AND CARE
items such as registration, assembling the conference packets, greeting the conference participants, answering questions throughout the weekend, providing snacks at the breaks and after the evening sessions, and preparing and serving the Saturday evening meal. This was the first conference of this type that I. P. C. has hosted, and for those that were involved with this event, we greatly appreciate all of the countless hours you provided. It would not have been as successful and smooth running without you!
Summer at Point Pleasant
Do you have a friend, co-worker, or neighbor that you have been thinking about inviting to I. P. C.? As you may have been praying or thinking about someone and God has placed a specific person on your mind, our Sunday evening services at Point Pleasant during the summer months provide an excellent opportunity to invite anyone to“ come and see” how a personal relationship with Christ can change their lives. The atmosphere at Point Pleasant is more casual and relaxed than on Sunday mornings; there is time afterwards to visit with others, to ask questions about the church and its beliefs, to enjoy a beautiful casual setting outside; and for kids to swim or enjoy games of football, basketball, and swing on a rope-swing over the marsh, or just run around. Several families that later joined I. P. C. began by visiting on Sunday evenings at Point Pleasant during the summer, so be praying about whom you can invite this summer.
Midway Conference
The Midway Reformation Worship Conference, October 15-17, provides a wonderful opportunity to continue to explore the impact on worship as we know it today by reformers such as Luther, Calvin and others. Similar in format to the Reformation’ s Reforms Conference that I. P. C. just hosted, this upcoming conference is hosted annually by Midway Presbyterian Church in Powder Springs, GA. It will feature speakers such as Carl Trueman, Robert Godfrey, David Gordon, Terry Johnson, Neil Stewart and several others. The deadline for Early Registration with a reduced conference fee is August 1. Brochures for the conference are at the book table in the Fellowship Hall, or additional information is available via the conference website: www. reformationworship. org. Several members of I. P. C. are planning to attend this year. Contact Rosemary Taylor or Julie McDougall if you are thinking about going or have any questions about the conference.
MISSIONS
I. P. C. Day Camp News Day Camp begins on May 29. There are more than 700 campers registered, and we anticipate a great summer of gospel ministry to the children of Savannah and beyond. There will again be eight one-week sessions of camp with about 90 campers in each session. We have come a long way in recovering from Hurricane Matthew and feel well-prepared for camp to start. Thanks to Chuck Moore and Kenneth Crowe for help in building a new, improved, and bigger tree house( previous one destroyed by the storm). We have also repaired damage to the challenge course and completed construction( by Project Adventure) on a new high elements course with 4 new challenges for this summer. This is a great addition to the Day Camp program and will be used by other I. P. C. ministries as well. Please pray for the Day Camp— that we would have safety and good health for all the campers and staff, and especially that the Gospel would be clearly proclaimed in word and in deed. Thank you.
Peru Mission Opportunity We will have a short-term mission trip to Trujillo, Peru on Sept. 29 through Oct. 7, 2017. This will be primarily a medical and dental mission trip, but there may be a construction project opportunity if there is sufficient interest. Please contact Frankie Daniell at fdaniell @ ipcsav. org if you are interested in this opportunity.
