PRINTPACK INDIA 2019 IPAMA BULLETIN IPAMA BULLETIN 2018-19 SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 2018 PUBLISHED BY IPP CATALOG PUBLICATIONS PVT LTD ON BEHALF OF IPAMA FOR PRIVATE CIRCULATION ONLY RN NO. UPENG/2006/16787 IMPORTER OF RUIJIE DIE-CUTTING MACHINES TO INDIA Vig Graphics to set up a new manufacturing unit in Mumbai HARISH PENUMARTHI F aridabad-based Vig Graphics, an importer of machinery and paper for the printing and packaging industry, recently decided to expand its operations in the western part of the country. The company’s new manufacturing unit will be located at Biwandi near Mumbai. “Prior to this, we had only one manufacturing facility in Faridabad. However, Mumbai is a big revenue generator, just like Delhi-NCR, and therefore we decided to set up our unit in Bhiwandi. We’re still in the planning stage. We have been manufacturing a few of the machines that we sell at the Faridabad unit but for a start, we have plans to manufacture automatic flute laminators at our upcoming Mumbai unit,” says Vikram Sarin, director of Vig Graphics. “We are supplying die-cutters to our customers through imports from a Chinese manufacturer,” Sarin adds. “However, some automation accessories and some other parts, such as baffle plates, runner systems, thin plate system, etc. are being manufactured locally by us which are fitted on the brand new Chinese die- cutters before being supplied to our customers.” The die-cutting machines supplied by Vig Graphics are manufactured by a Chinese company named Cangzhou Ruijie Carton Machinery. Cangzhou Ruijie manufactures and supplies carton manufacturing machinery to its wide base of customers worldwide. The company also participates in most of the packaging and corrugation exhibitions organized in India in order to tap more customers in the country. At the IndiaCorr Expo 2018, which was held at the Bombay Exhibition Center in Goregaon (E), Mumbai, the company sold its machines under a common brand name – Ruijie Vig Graphics. Vig is the only reseller of Ruijie machines in India. For the past three years, Vig Graphics has been procuring machines from Cangzhou Ruijie and has been selling them in India under a common brand name Ruijie Vig Graphics. “But for the last 25 years, we have been importing machines from well- known companies such as Bobst and Heidelberg among many others and supplying the refurbished models to customers here in India. We have sold more than 80 refurbished Bobst die- cutting machines in the last 9 years. We also provide after-sales services for these machines,” Sarin shares. Generally, a carton manufacturer buys an automated machine in order to cut labor costs. One auto-platen machine has the ability to perform at a speed equivalent to two or three manual die-cutting machines, and there lies the problem; if one automated machine breaks down for nearly a day, it is extremely difficult to bear the losses incurred. Commenting on the after-sales Vikram Sarin, director, Vig Graphics services provided by Vig Graphics, Sarin explains, “Any automation should come with reliability and quick service. We follow a specific pattern for the services we provide. We maintain a database of the machine’s health for a period of nearly a month. The database includes the run time of each machine and the problems detected during that period. Depending upon the severity of the problem, upon consulting the customer, we provide our services. We make sure that our engineer checks every machine installed at each of our customer’s unit at least once a month. Due to such a rigorous maintenance schedule, there are extremely few chances of a machine breaking down. So, we’re always trying to provide proactive preventive service in order to avert any such situation where our customer has to bear losses,” Sarin concludes. SEP-OCT 2018 | SUPPORTED BY IPP & PSA | 1
