One of my favorite cliché sayings of all time is “There's nothing like a first impression”. It's always something I've taken very seriously, and it seems in almost every instance, something that has proven to be true. I can think of no scenario when this is more relevant, such as meeting a celebrity for the first time. Of course having advanced warning of potential introductions is always nice. However, when I first met JADE STARLING, it was definitely one of those times when I wish I could have had a doover. If not for Jade's amazing down-to-earth demeanor and her overall friendly personality, I think I may have had to chalk our first encounter up to one of my more embarrassing moments. A few years ago, my wife GRETCHEN JOHNSON--who is a photographer--started working on one of Jade's new album covers and portfolio. It was a Sunday evening. I know that because I was glued to the tube watching my PHILADELPHIA EAGLES. So I'm already in my pajamas. Yes I wear them. I'm lying in bed with one hand buried in a bag of chips and my other hand clasped to 12 ounces of my favorite brew. I'm screaming at the television as if LESEAN MCCOY could actually hear me. All of a sudden, in this sultry voice, I hear, “Hello Scott.” There in my bedroom doorway--completely dressed to the nines and looking like she's about to hit the stage--stands Jade Starling. So here I am looking like a total hobo behaving like...well...an Eagles fan. I can't even imagine the look on my face. But, I can tell you there have been few other moments in my life when I wish I could have been invisible. There's no doubt in my mind that Gretchen and Jade probably laugh about that first encounter to this day. All that said, we've all been friends ever since and Jade is about as humble a celebrity as you will ever meet. Scotty J: Hey, Jade--congratulations with the new album “Captive”. How's the success of your new hit single “Better and Better” been? I know it's #4 on the Billboards now. Jade Starling: For this record, immediately on its release, we got it added to several radio stations. Not just internet radio station, but real radio stations. PULSE 106.7 in Vegas was the one that broke it, and then its sister station, PULSE 97 New York--and then NEWS RADIO, FUSION RADIO and now THE PARTY. There's two PARTY stations--one in Miami and one in Long Island. So we're getting rotation on radio stations, which I have to say our other 2 singles did not get. They did well, but they didn't do as well. This one is really opening more doors for us.
