ION INDIE MAGAZINE September 2015, Volume 16 | Page 22
Both nights featured the same set lists, dug deep into the past with songs like I’ll Wait and even Dirty Movies. Personally, I
would have loved to see In A Simple Rhyme traded for Sinner’s Swing. I actually enjoyed Dave’s solo time…he combined a
little harmonica, some improv storytelling with Ice Cream Man and Stay Frosty. Nobody tells a story like DLR--ever hear one of
his interviews? Only Diamond Dave
can come up with lyrics like
“Mousewife to Momshell in the time
it took to get that new tattoo”, and
“I can barely see the road from the
heat comin' off of it. Ah, you reach
down, between my legs, ease the
seat back.” That’s classic David Lee
Roth!
Reading other reviews, I’ve realized
that haters are going to hate. The
negative reviews will mostly come
from wannabes and hacks suffering
from “keyboard courage”, because
they never really liked VH to begin
with. As for me, I never stopped
smiling at both shows and sang
along as loud as I could…the mighty
Van Halen is back. Sure, this version
may be a little older and a little
grayer than the 1980’s version--but
aren’t we all?
