Story and Photography by Lisa Sasserath Boehm http://lisasasserathboehm.500px.com/ http://sasserathphotography.zenfolio.com/ In today’s age of digital music and overly synthesized autotunes, witnessing a true, genuine talent is an occasion that happens not nearly enough. I had the absolute pleasure and honor of seeing JOHNNY FLYNN perform at UNION TRANSFER in Philadelphia in late July. His trifecta of poetry, stage presence and outright prodigious musical talent was nothing less than breathtaking. The lyrics to his songs are an art in and of themself, as if emanating directly from the man’s soul. I’ve truly never seen anything like it. Born in South Africa and now based in London, Flynn (of the band JOHNNY FLYNN AND THE SUSSEX WITT), was playing in support of LAURA MARLING, but was most certainly headline worthy, as the crowd knew every word to musician/actor’s every song. I fear it might be a long while before I again come across such a lovely performer, but until then, I hope you give yourself the gift of discovering Johnny Flynn. http://johnnyflynnmusic.co.uk/
