EL: I had a catalog of a bunch of local music and someone wanted it. The bands I work with are a large variety. So there's something for every client’s needs. DX: Is it something that independent artists can do on their own? What are the pros and cons of going through someone experienced and established with licensing vs. going at it alone from scratch? EL: They can, but without the right connections it is harder. I just offer a faster and easier way to do it for my bands. DX: I am surprised by bands that I talk to or interview from other regions of the country that don’t know anything about licensing--just like me a few years ago... lol. Are there other studios in the region that you are aware of that offer publishing and licensing? EL: Not to my knowledge. So there you have it. All of these singles, EPs, and LPs that you have been recording over your careers--in the right hands--can be out there working for you. Before it happened to me, I guess I never really paid attention. But, next time you are watching some random television show or sporting event, listen to all of that background music. It is almost constant and a great deal of it is not what you are hearing on the radio. There are so many situations calling for such a vast variety of styles and genres and tempos and keys and subject matter: WWE, NASCAR, MLB, NHL, NFL, RESTAURANT: IMPOSSIBLE, DALLAS CAR SHARKS, NITRO CIRCUS, KATIE COURIC, HOT WHEELS, HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA, Commercials, Movies. HUNDREDS of different shows THOUSANDS of times around the world--in the USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Japan, Brazil...EVERYWHERE! And all out of one tiny little spot on the Wisconsin map and the WORLD music scene--put there by Eric LaBrosse of Cherry Pit Studios.
