MM: Hi, Tom. Tell a little about the history of Red Sky Mary.
Tom: The history of the band isn’t really a history of the band. As long as I can remember I
have had a running dialogue with my father about music. He didn't necessarily sit down
with me and teach me how to play guitar solos or anything like that. But, we’ve spent
countless hours talking about different bands, different players and different songs. How to
strive to be a "good musician"…what makes a good band. Things like that were always
being discussed. Sam and I have been best friends since we were 2 years old and
creativity has always been the center of that friendship. We started playing Rock music
together at the age of 17 and we have been doing it for 8 years now.
MM: Was it always a dream of yours--to play on tour with your dad?
Tom: No. My dad and I started playing together by accident. RSM needed a fill-in bassist
and he did the gigs. Initially we thought, "This will never be an actual thing." I'm very grateful
things have worked out the way they
have.
MM: Gary, was it always in the
plans to play on stage with your
son?
Gary: It exceeds the plan to play
with my son.
MM: It must be awesome to be on
stage each night and look over to
see your son jamming with you
every night.
Gary: Absolutely. It's neat that we
share that experience together and
also it's satisfying to play with a
guitar player that shares my goals,
objectives, and expectations.

background as a musician. Selftaught or professionally trained?
When did you start playing
professionally?
Gary: I’m formally self-taught. My
first gig was at the 8th grade end of
the year pizza party. Haven't
stopped since…
