Ryan: “Don’t Bother Me”. David came to me. He said he had it together, but wasn’t sure which way to go with it. He had a good direction to get it started. I took it and played with it, and gave it back to him and he played with it and then he gave it back to me and I played with it. It took years of writing that song, just passing it back and forth and getting all of our ideas into it. It’s definitely true blues. That’s one of my favorites. “Southern Def Jam” is to me one of the most fun and diverse at the same time. You have this funk that’s just not heard that much anymore. Then it goes into some thrash, punk rock kinda stuff at the end. It’s a partying fun type song. JP: Upcoming shows…what have you got cookin’? Ryan: We have actually been taking off a little bit of time to get our work in with our new drummer, Bobby Ferguson. We don’t wanna go into a show without being a hundred percent. We wanna make sure everyone is on time and in key and everybody knows exactly where to go. We just wanna make sure we’re on point. Our first show with our new drummer will be November 4th, “Metal Meltdown 5”, in Orange Park. It’s a 2 day event at DEE’S MUSIC BAR AND GRILL. We will be playing on Friday night with other local metal bands. JP: If there was a young kid that came up to you, an aspiring young musician, what do you think they should know about the business of music? Ryan: Be true to yourself. Write what you wanna write. You write what you have inside of you--what your ideas, what your thoughts are. Don’t just try to be in with the crowd. I tell them if you’re trying to do this for money, you’re in the wrong business. You do it because it’s what you love and because you want to bring your point of view out to the world. David: I agree with Ryan in theory. I would tell them, no matter what you play, play it with passion. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing cover music, it doesn’t matter if you’re playing your own music…play it with passion. Kevin: You have to put your band before a lot of people. JP: I always like to give bands that I interview a chance to add anything they want at the end of our time together--thoughts, views, comments, opinions…what would you like to add? David: I would like to say to anybody listening that your local scene is as good, if not better, than your national scene. There are tons of talent as far as technical skill on instruments, as well as pure raw songwriting ability right in your back yard. All you gotta do is make a phone call, click on your mouse, whatever you gotta do to uncover this music in your backyard that is equal or superior to the national level. I am going to encourage anyone listening, no matter where you are, to do that. It’s out there. Ryan: I would like to say thank you to a few people. One, definitely, that this would not have been possible without is CHRIS HARVEY. He is my cousin. He is also the singer for HANGMAN’S CROWN. If he had not allowed to us to do all of our rehearsals in his band room, we probably would not have gotten this far. I wanna tell BRUCE LENZI thank you--for constantly helping to promote the locals, not only us, but all of the local indie, unsigned bands. He works tirelessly 24 hours a day to get them out. It doesn’t matter who they are. He’s trying to get them out to get them heard. People like that you’ve gotta love. He doesn’t ask for anything from anybody. It’s all done for the love of the music. We need more people like that.
