Paper Chain • EP Review by Kat Zee Track List: 1. Paper Chain 2. Revelation 3. Place To Fall 4. Deceiver 5. Fathom The Band: Helen Page–Vocals Richard Wood–Guitar/Vocals Lee Wood–Guitar Andrew Gordon–Bass Grant Robinson–Drums BETWEEN WAVES is a female-fronted modern Rock/Metal band from Bridgend in South Wales, United Kingdom. The band was formed in 2013 from the ashes of SUMERIAN EDEN. They will release their debut EP “Paper Chain” on Friday, October 23, 2015. I especially favored the title track “Paper Chain”--with its melodic guitars and Helen’s interesting vocals…sort of a mash-up between NO DOUBT and THE CRANBERRIES. This is a more subdued track with DEFTONES’ echoes that builds to a strong guitar riff. “Place To Fall”, with its Doomish-style mixing and Grunge overtones (a la SOUNGARDEN)…with a side serving of KORN) leaves the listener hungry for more. Stoner and lower tones with catchy sounds are present in “Fathom”, where “heavy” and “power” meet! Impressive vocals herald the opening of “Revelation”…with a sudden launch into a beautiful assault on the listener's ears with heavier riffs and driving drums, lending to a Stoner Metal climate. Amazing sounds! The track “Deceiver” truly showcases just how talented this band is…with its impeccably placed change-ups. BETWEEN WAVES manages to marry different styles and elements of Rock 'n' Roll and raw Metal. Worthy of a mention is the fantastic bass work that permeates deep into the bones…killer! This debut EP “Paper Chain” is a necessary addition to every lover of female-fronted Rock and Metal. Every track on this album is potential hit. This EP offers riveting riffs, skilled singing, great musicianship and high quality production. I truly savoured immersing myself in the music of these Welsh Rockers. I wish them all the best in their music career and highly recommend this EP!
