“REVERBNATION Artist of the Month” is a strong
contender in the music industry--both figuratively
and literally. MARWAN MAURICE is a world traveler.
He has lived in several countries in Europe while he
was playing basketball professionally there. His
repertoire is extensive and multi-faceted: He is a
model, bodybuilder, songwriter and performer, now
living in Columbus, Ohio.
I talked to Marwan several times and found him to be
soft-spoken, yet engaging and intelligent. I asked
Marwan a few questions and the following are his
answers.
JB: When did you know you wanted to become a
performer?
MM: I knew from an early age--probably 5 or 6 years
old. I just didn’t know if it was music or basketball.
JB: If a person said "You sound like________" and
it made you happy, who would that be?
MM: That would be hard to say because they’re so many good ones. I like to stick with my own sound. I would
like people to want to sound like Marwan.
JB: Do people ever send you their music and want you to sing the lyrics or co-write with them?
MM: Sometimes, but mostly they ask to collaborate with them.
JB: What is the biggest difference you have noticed between European and American fans? Is there a
difference between sports fans and music fans?
MM: Fans are more open in Europe. It depends on your level of success I guess.
JB: What is your favorite venue to play and why?
MM: I don’t have a favorite. I prefer to play smaller, more intimate venues. Intimacy is important and fans
seem more appreciative.
JB: Whose CD is in the player of your car now?
