Marcus: I didn’t really
star t understanding
music until I was in high
school. I mean, sure, I
heard songs on the radio
just like everyone else,
but I don’t think I ever
really LISTENED. My
father was a musician as
well, and I remember
he’d tried to teach me
guitar probably about
seven thousand times,
and I just had absolutely no interest. Which now, you can’t pry a guitar out of
my hands for your life!
Nicholas: Yeah, when I rst met Marcus, we shared an English class in high
school, and I just knew him as that annoying guitar kid that would hang out
with the OTHER annoying guitar kid! I hated it!
Marcus: Truthfully, my largest inuences are all over the place. I listen to a
LOT of QUEEN. MUSE, too. Ah, let’s see…writing “Warrior”…we drew from
all across the board, everything from KISS to ED SHEERAN and MOTLEY CRUE
to DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE.
Nicholas: But I think our strongest inuences are each other. We’ve been
playing and writing together for as long as I can remember, and we know
each other’s strengths and weaknesses and try and write into them as much as
possible. We just try to write music we really believe in.
JP: How is the music scene in Poughkeepsie?
Nicholas: Five years ago? I would’ve said there was no other place for music
besides Poughkeepsie.
Marcus: Yeah, it denitely leaves something to be desired. There’s not a lot of
demand around there for anything besides Pop Punk anymore.
Nicholas: And there’s not even any originality anymore! You go to a show
with ve bands on it, you expect ve bands, not one band ve different ways!
