RTFX: ON THE RECORD An Interview Conducted by Chris Presti and Vince Miller Chris: Where did your love of music start? RTFX: Back in the early 70's before I knew who Elvis was, there was a variety show on Tuesday nights with Tom Jones. His energy was infectious. From there, Mom playing Elvis, Dad playing The Beatles and my Aunt playing Kiss. ‘Nuff Said! Vince: Do you have any musical talent of your own? RTFX: I was a drummer for over 20 years in various projects and recording sessions. I play the guitar, keyboards. Most of all, I consider myself a singer. I was trained under Don Lawrence in NYC who also trained Tony Harnell, Sebastian Bach and Jon Bon Jovi. Chris: Your love of Liner Notes was evident in some of your earlier Neue Regel Radio shows. How did that start? RTFX: Being an Art Director by trade, I was always fascinated with packaging. I was always curious on where things were recorded, who was the engineer, who designed the cover and the instruments that were used. Vince: What’s been your favorite Neue Regel Radio show? RTFX: This might come as a surprise, but Tunes From The Crypt, where I got my first taste of Independent artists. Chris: What would be your ultimate concert or “Supergroup”? RTFX: My ultimate concert would be Cheap Trick opening up for Led Zeppelin. My ultimate “Supergroup” would be made up of Jon Bonham on drums, Angus Young on guitar, Geddy Lee on bass, John Sykes on guitar, and Steve Perry on vocals. Vince: How was the vision of Neue Regel started? RTFX: To be honest, it started as a big “F-U”, not only to the record industry, but to a few nameless individuals. More importantly, I wanted to feel that I could create something that was pure of heart, spiritually driven and unable to be stained by the worst of humanity--a place that I could call home, as well as others who have been talked about, backstabbed and put down because they believed in something. Chris: Why play Indie bands, and not all national artists if you’re a competitive radio station? RTFX: Because I understand first-hand the struggle that Indie artists face, and frankly, they are just as good-if not better, than the watered-down crap you hear these days.
