James: I write the majority of the lyrics, Phil and I both collaborate on the music though. Usually one of us has an idea and we take it from there--it is all very organic and some of our most popular material was created live on stage and then fine-tuned later after listening to recordings, or even perfected over several shows. Some songs start at one show, and then maybe six months later, have morphed into their final form. Phil: (chimes in to compliment his older brother) James writes most of the lyrics and rhythms, I throw the stuff on top. It's pretty organic, and our songs are constantly changing. It's an ongoing process. YD: Where do you find inspiration to write a song? James: Inspiration for a song is everywhere. I usually write from an emotional place. Most of my lyrics tend to reflect on frustrations with the mundane or of being misunderstood, or sometimes from fear of finding myself alone; sometimes from my faith in God, or from my love for my wife, or for the hope my children give me. Frustration, fear, faith, love, and hope--yeah, apparently I'm just a cliché. I guess I write for therapy. Phil: Life in general…I try to play how the song feels. I wish we would play some more lighthearted stuff. Maybe that will come with the new lineup. Phil, when he isn’t working or playing a gig, has been enjoying the outdoors, riding motorcycles and watching his son play football. James likes to spend as much time as possible with his family. Quote: “My two daughters are my everything and I have an amazing, talented and beautiful wife. I am blessed beyond comprehension and try to enjoy every moment I can with them. My son is grown, so I don't get to see him as much, but sure wish I could.” James and his family are involved with many community activities and functions. They own a music/clothing store with a larger room attached. That is James’ studio where he gives music lessons and teaches anyone eager to learn. YD: What do you address first when introducing a new student or explaining "orientation"? If I walked in to meet you for guitar lessons tomorrow...is there homework? James: I like to just get a guitar in people's hands and show them a couple chords and some of the major scale. If they come back next week and remember those (chords) than we can go anywhere from there. Homework is up to you, just like anything, you'll get outta it what you put into it. The Williams Brothers Band has hit Top 10 of the on-line charts with their original Blues, Americana and Rock songs. James and Phil kicked off their “2014 Rock & Roll Marathon Tour” in Denver on October 19th, making their way to Los Angeles, then Vegas, before returning home.
