THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT House of Blues • Boston, MA • March 27. 2015 Review and Photography by Mark Myers • www.markmyersphotography.com “You Only Get Three Songs” “You only get three songs.” Yup, I’ve heard it before. Venue security seems to enjoy reminding photographers that they’ve only got the first 3 songs of a set to capture the greatness of a band with their cameras. That’s easy, right? Not always. When the band happens to be THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT it’s a difficult task because I was constantly checking out the band--not with my camera, but with eyes wide open and jaw dropped. Holy shit, these guys ROCK! Good, classic Rock and Roll--the way it was meant to be. But wait…I have a job to do, get some great photos. It would have been much easier if these guys had sucked. Not even close, they had me and the capacity crowd from the opening chord. A band from London comes to Boston, Massachusetts, plays to packed house that are there mainly to see BLACKBERRY SMOKE--literally in the shadows of “The Green Monster” of Fenway Park…where the sports fans are rabid and the music fans are hardcore--and guitarist PAUL SAYER walks out with a RED SOX shirt! We love them already! I went into this gig thinking they have one really good song I like on the radio, “Take It Back”, so I’m guessing they’ll play that last. I’ll shoot the first three songs, kick back, and wait to hear the song I like. Instead, I became a fan from the opening song, “Modern Massacre”, and it just got better and better as the show went on. They’re a raw, honest, straightforward Rock band. What a relief! No gimmicks, no backing tracks and no bullshit. PHIL CAMPBELL has a great raspy true Rock voice, and you could seriously power up a small city with the energy this guy expends on stage. Definitely a solid band with a very big future. They won over the Boston crowd and that’s not easy. I’m sure there were 2000+ fans that did the same thing I did after the show…download music. I bought every song I could find online after the show. In hindsight, I’m happy I only got “three songs”, that meant I had the other 5 songs to sit back enjoy! The Temperance Movement is: Phil Campbell—vocals, Luke Potashnick—guitars, Paul Sayer—guitars, Nick Fyffe—bass and Damon Wilson—drums. Their Set List included: “Modern Massacre”, “Be Lucky”, “Midnight Black”, “Smouldering”, “Battle Lines”, “Only Friend”, “Ain’t No Telling” and “Take It Back”.
