During my endeavors as a photojournalist here in El Paso, I had heard of BISCUIT ROLLER, but never had the pleasure of attending one of their shows. Well, all that has changed over the past month…I've seen them twice and shot both shows. To be perfectly honest, they were into their second song the first time I saw them and knew right away that these guys had something special--special in a way that only a two piece act could be. Biscuit Roller consists of TAYLOR (Bones) HULSEY on guitar and TONY (Chops) ACUNA on drums. Taylor has been playing the guitar for 15 years and Tony has been behind the kit for 20 years…and make no mistake, it shows…these two just reek of talent! Asked where the name of the band came from and Tony tells me, “It’s a 30's era Blues term--as in a woman who is your number one girl, your lover and/or your wife.” Which is exactly how these two feel about the music they make--hence, “Biscuit Roller”! The style of music they play is Bluesy Rock and Roll. Taylor likes to call it "Southwestern Rock" and I couldn't agree more! Major influences are BLIND WILLIE MCTELL, BECK, JACK WHITE and JIMMY PAGE, to name a few. They are no stranger to touring here in Texas. They've also played multiple shows in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Austin and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, not to mention SXSW in 2013 and 2015. They released their first 3 song EP back in May of 2012 entitled "Smelter Town". They recorded it in a 130 year old abandoned church over Easter Weekend in Mesilla, New Mexico. Their full-length release, a self-titled album, was finished in May of 2013 and a third album is done, titled "Dog Days”, was produced by Justin Leeah, but won't be released until this summer. With an East Coast Tour planned to support “Dog Days”, they will be on tour with LONELY HORSE from San Antonio, Texas. Biscuit Roller has played every venue for the most part here in El Paso, and they have the support of fans of our local music scene. They have played KLAQ's “StreetFest”, and they headlined the “Sunset Heights Block Party” in 2013 and ‘14. And when they did their CD release party at THE LOWBROW, they packed the place as it should be! In my opinion, this is a band that deserves a listen and once you do, you'll be a fan as I am, without doubt! http://biscuitroller915.wix.com/biscuitroller www.facebook.com/thebiscuitroller https://youtu.be/OmOxRL9V8a4
