SUICIDE SILENCE and MEMPHIS MAY FIRE
Story and Photography by Timothy Schumann
We had two evenings of pure “Metal Mayhem” On March 24th and the 25th, 2015, here in
El Paso, Texas, and of course, at the one and only, TRICKY FALLS. And as fate would have it,
El Paso rolled out the Red Carpet for SUICIDE SILENCE and MEMPHIS MAY FIRE. In these
two nights, over 2500 people attended. Now mind you, Tricky Falls can hold 1500 people-and that's busting at the seams. So needless to say, with that many people (and throw in a
mix of Deathcore/Hardcore and Southern Metal music), you can just imagine the type of
madness we had here over those 48 hours. Suicide Silence brought their the “Stronger Than
Faith" tour in full force on Tuesday night and the place went crazy--with songs like "No Pity
For a Coward", "Unanswered" and "Wake Up". Front man EDDIE HERMIDA prowled the
stage like a man on a mission. It was just unbelievable--Death Metal at its finest!
The band has been together since 2002 and originated out of Riverside, California. To their
credit, they have four full length albums, one EP and eleven videos. They just released their
new album "You Can't Stop Me", hence, this supporting tour. In 2009, REVOLVER
MAGAZINE presented them with the "Golden God Award" for "Best New Talent", and in my
opinion, well deserved!
Now the very next night, which was a Wednesday, Memphis May Fire picked up right where
SUICIDE SILENCE left off. The only difference was…they sold the place out! People were
lined up outside starting at two in the afternoon. By the time doors opened, the line was
wrapped around the building! Memphis May Fire hails from Dallas, Texas and has been
together since 2004, with four studio albums under their belt. This tour is the "Take
Action Tour", but should be the "Take No Prisoners" tour, because they just blew the roof
off Tricky Falls. People had their hair blown back by front man MATTY MULLINS, as he sang
songs such as "Drove Me Right", "The Sinner" and "Vices".
Without doubt, this is the finest example of "Hardcore/Southern Metal I’ve ever had the
pleasure of witnessing! All in all, these two national acts could not have put on a more stellar
performance--not to mention, the outstanding turnout by the fans of El Paso. Truth be told,
they absolutely love their Death/Black Metal here. In closing, it warms my heart to see
sellout crowds (or close to it) here. Hopefully, when an agent is putting together a tour for
a band, he will either remember El Paso from a past experience or will have heard from
another source that El Paso is definitely the place to book their band.
