ION Indie Magazine’s ReverbNation Artist of the Month
Kara & The Dam Band
Interview by JB Bridges
The Republic of Texas--for most people, that
sentence conjures images of cowboy hats and
rattlesnakes, fat cows and oil wells. And
somewhere in the mix, you'll think of Country
music. Whoa, little pony, not so fast! They've
also got some excellent Rock and Roll. That's
where this month's ReverbNation featured artist
comes into play. From the Texas hill country, I
am pleased to present my choice, KARA
STEVENS. Kara's voice is like a melting pot of
great female voices. She reminds me of GRACE
SLICK, KIM CARNES, PAT BENATAR and a little
BONNIE RAITT thrown in for good measure. Edgy,
with a lot of nice range. So leave the Stetson on
the rack and grab a ball cap instead, slip on a
pair of tennis shoes and leave the cowboy boots
by the door. You can still wear your big shiny belt

know...
JB: Where were you born and where did you grow up? Brothers or sisters?
KARA: I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX, and I have one brother, DUKE STEVENS.
JB: What was your first job?
KARA: I am an artist (painter / sculptor) and I sell my artwork on the side of my music career. I graduated
from UTSA in 2013 with a Bachelors of Fine Art.
JB: What was your first instrument and how did you acquire it?
KARA: My first instrument was and is my voice. I have been singing all my life. I could never help it. I would
sing in the shower, out loud at parties, talent shows--you name it. My instrument is the translator of all my
