ION Indie Magazine Goes Behind the Scenes!
You turn on the radio or go to an internet station and hear a new song by a fresh artist--and then find yourself
humming it and find that it strikes a chord in you. This prompts you to do a web search on this artist, which
leads to you visiting a video housing site--and there it is—the accompanying video to your new favorite song!
Have you ever wondered what goes into the making of music?
ION Indie Magazine followed along with “Alvarez Breakthrough Artist” and “Official CMT” recording artist,
ASHLEY WINELAND—from studio to video—and went behind the scenes to witness the development of a
song. In this case, it was Ashley’s latest offering, “No Prince Charming”.
J.B. BRIDGES and I had several meetings with some key members of “Team Wineland”, comprised of her
father, BRENT WINELAND, her mother, KIM WINELAND, and her song-writing partner/producer—and owner
of KUBE MUSIC, BRYAN KUBAN. This included a series of phone calls and breakfast/lunch meetings to talk
over all the various nuances to this story. With “No Prince Charming” slated as Ashley’s next release, I leapt
at the opportunity to provide the readers of ION a
“sneak peek” into the processes that go into the
recording and video production of a song.
Some of you may remember 16 year old Ashley, as
she graced the cover of ION INDIE MAGAZINE’S
December 2014 Issue. J.B. Bridges, Managing Editor
and Photojournalist for ION, came across this
phenomenal talent while perusing REVERBNATION,
in search of a local artist to cover LIVE for the
publication. And what a “find” this singer-songwriter
musical dynamo turned out to be! We caught her
show at THE HITCHING POST in Apache Junction,
Arizona, which is a fabulous Country venue, complete
with an actual hitching post to accommodate the
horses of area cowboys that frequent this favorite
“watering hole”. It also sports a replica Old West
Town out back, where outdoor concerts are often
held. We soon learned that besides the scrumptious
food, the exceptional entertainment and charming
Country ambiance, The Hitching Post also boasted
LIVE bull riding on Saturday nights. We knew we had
stumbled upon the REAL deal here!
We had listened to Ashley’s CD “Family Business” and were familiar with her previous songs, and while we
found her vocals impressive and song-writing quite exceptional--her LIVE performance was even better than
her studio produced songs (a rarity indeed)! And it was only after Ashley belted out the first couple of songs
with her band, that we realized that we had come across something quite rare and special! And this led to
young Ashley being selected to appear on and in our December 2014 issue—and it wasn’t long after, that
Ashley was signed to an exclusive contract with T&T MANAGEMENT AND BOOKING AGENCY…and the rest,
as they say, is history!
