Story and Photography by Timothy Schumann
When I heard that TRIVIUM was stopping here in El Paso, I couldn't dig up the contact info quick enough
to be approved to cover the show for ION. Pre-sales were going thru the roof four weeks before the set date
of January 29th and of course, at TRICKY FALLS. I had heard nothing but good things about this band,
which just added to the excitement. Got my personal photos and hung out briefly with MATT and PAOLO
before the show--just a great bunch of guys all around, not to mention, we're kinda “Homeboys”…they are
out of Orlando and I am from Tampa, 90 minutes down I-4.
The band has been around since 2000, with 7 albums under their belt, they just released that 7th album
which is titled "Silence in the Snow", (one million sold worldwide!), which this tour is supporting. The line
started to wrap around the building about two hours before, and when those doors did open at 7, whatever
tickets were available, were gone—hence, a sold out show! Needless to say, another packed house, 1500
in attendance, ready for a heavy Metal show…and this is what Trivium dishes out…in-your--face, straight,
no frills, no whistles or bells, heavy Metal music. Songs like "Into the Mouth of Hell We March", "Dead and
Gone", and the popular tune which is on Top 40 Rock stations "Until the World Goes Cold", had this crowd
in a state of sheer madness and bedlam.
It was my honor to cover this show as it has a special meaning for me, especially at Tricky Falls, but that is
another story soon to unfold. If you're a fan of this type of music, then this story is old news because you
already know, you are a Trivium fan. But if you're not or never heard of them, please take my advice and
check them out and make no mistake, you too will be a fan. Do yourself a favor and get the new release,
and soon you'll have the other 6 albums before you know it. These boys are the real deal!
