TT: Luckily for me, it wasn't even a matter of having to break a cycle--it was more of recognizing a cycle. What would happen is, we would have to space out album releases to at least a year and a half, just to give the full cycle of--it took a good 8-10 months for an album cycle in those days to know what you were going to sell. Then there was a little time off from you being hammered down people's throats, and then release something again. We would do an album, and there’d be a time period of a couple of months after the album was finished before it would be released of 2-3 months, then we'd go out on tour. There was a series of time-offs after an album or tour that I just found myself sitting around-- racing motorcycles is what I was doing most of that time; motocross racing. I knew I had a certain amount of time every year I could count on that I could do whatever I want with my time. Initially, I just thought I'd build up a recording studio at home just for writing music, to make it easier to write music for KING’S X. I started doing that, and the studio got to a point where I was having fun recoding in it, and thinking it was sounding legitimate enough to actually do something with it. That's sort of where the change happened--having the facilities to able to do some music, and time I could count on. The whole solo career started that way, and really has been that way ever since. Lately, I've had a lot more time to do solo stuff because KING’S X doesn't really tour that much--we only go out once in a while. But, back in those days, that's how it all started. TT: I go in trying to keep an open mind to whatever it's going to become, and try not to have it defined. Anytime you write a song, you have a vision in your head of that song.
