Do” and that’s when I decided to become a guitar player. I got my first guitar when I was
eleven and we can thank PETER FRAMPTON for that.
JP: What does TRUE VIOLET represent as an all female band?
Jessie: I believe whether female or not, we represent unity, loyalty and empowerment as
people, not just women. Together we have been able to accomplish so much. Paying the
rent, making tours happen. We believe in family, friendship and love. In our music you will
be able to hear how we collide as people and as musicians.
JP: The CD is due out in early June, correct?
Jessie: Yes, June the 3rd.
JP: What’s the title?
Jessie: Ooooo…I think we are going to self-title it since it’s the first one. If it changes,
you’ll be the first to know.
JP: You did ha ve a name change, because the band was originally named VIOLET.
Alayna: Yeah, it was basically over copyright issues. We have a really cool lawyer. He told
us it’s a really common word and there are so many bands with that name, including girl
bands, that if you stick with “Violet”, you’re pretty much screwed.
JP: What’s the meaning behind the CD? Is there a theme?
Jessie: There definitely is a theme. The beginning half of the album, the first half of the
album, the first song is potentially called “I’m Ready”. It starts out with…we got all of our
pieces together and we’re ready to do this. Then it moved into the meaning of life and
moves into how difficult it can be, and it ends with…it’s not over and we’re gonna get this
and we’re going to keep going. That is the theme of life. That is the theme of music and
THAT is the theme of our album…Evolution.
JP: Are there plans for a tour?
Jessie: Yes, we’re slated for a June 3rd release show in Vegas, which is Devo’s hometown.
Then June 5th in Los Angeles. Then in Florida—we’re looking at June 27th at THE HOUSE OF
BLUES in Orlando as our official Florida release. In there we are looking to hit Tennessee,
hopefully Atlanta and back to Florida. So it’s going to kind of be a southeast pocket, west
coast, but we’re up in the air and may actually get to the top of Pennsylvania. We’re not
sure. We’re going back and forth with promoters, but officially tour dates on the east coast
would be June 19th through June 30th. On the west coast would be the week of June 3rd.
JP: If you had the opportunity to tour with any band current or past, who would
you like to tour with?
Jessie: MUMFORD AND SONS. I know that sounds crazy, because it’s not really our style,
but his lyrics and writing style has just blown me away. Towards the end of our album, it
really influenced me as a lyricist. If it were up to me, I would go on tour with them just
because of how much they’ve influenced me.
Alayna: Maybe THE BANGLES would be awesome. STEVIE NICKS would be awesome.
Someone who we’re really passionate about.
